Online lessons

Effective & Flexible lesson experience

My approach to

Online Lessons

Through my experience with online percussion lessons (both teaching and taking lessons), I have developed teaching skills to take advantage of the added benefits offered by an online format.

With my multi-camera setup and high speed fiber internet, I provide you with the same (or better!) lesson experience as you would have in-person.

Why online lessons work!

Benefits of Online lessons

Multi camera views

My setup includes multiple cameras so I can show you angles (such as looking down on the drums or close up of the drum pedal) that you can't get in-person.

Camera zoom

The ability to zoom and move the camera allows me to clearly show hand and foot techniques and easily check and correct your technique.

Record your lessons

You have the option to record your lessons which can be helpful to reference while practicing or as resource you can go back to any time you want.

Play on your own gear

Lessons are on the instrument you practice on, so you won't waste lesson time adjusting to different gear. I'll also make sure your setup is correct, both musically and ergonomically.

More scheduling flexibility

Since I'm not restricted by space availability, I can be more flexible on the days and times I offer as well as more easily adjust your lesson time if you have a scheduling conflict.

Less time in the car

Instead of spending time driving to your lesson (and for parents, waiting at the lesson), you can have your lessons at home, school, wherever! Maybe use all the time you'll save for extra practicing?

What you need

Device with Camera & Microphone

You will need a device with a camera and microphone, such as a laptop, phone or tablet.

High speed Internet

For the best experience, you'll want a good quality internet connection that is consistent and relatively fast.

Headphones recommended

Although not required, I always recommend using headphones to more easily hear over the sound of the instruments. Sound isolation headphones are best (Vic Firth has some great options), but you can also use earbuds with over-the-ear hearing protection.

Getting connected

How it Works

I primarily use Zoom for lessons due to its better sound quality and scheduling options. However, I can use other platforms if needed.

Use link to enter zoom

Enter Zoom shortly before your lesson time. The link doesn't change so you can save it as a favorite for easier access.

Wait in 'waiting room'

You'll be placed in a 'Waiting Room' until your lesson starts. Make sure your instruments, sticks/mallets and books are ready to go!

I'll connect you

At your lesson time, I will let you into my Meeting Room and our lesson will begin. It's that simple, no login is required!
